19 March, overcast
I ate alone today. I got home late; the kitchen held half a bunch of greens, two eggs and a packet of noodles.
Once I would have ordered in. Tonight I stood at the stove and made the decision in ten minutes: wash the greens, chop them, boil water, drop the noodles, and finally add an egg. When I carried the bowl to the table, the whole room smelled different.
The first step of independence is not “being able to handle everything”, it is “taking care of yourself”. Even a meal for one deserves cooking properly and eating properly.
Nobody can live your days for you, and nobody can enjoy them for you either.
After washing up, I felt far better than on the evenings I ordered in.
