The word “persistence” is said too forcefully, as if it required gritted teeth every single day.
My experience is the opposite: the things I have actually kept up are the ones I made light enough — twenty pages a day, three kilometres a day, three hundred words a day. Light enough that skipping them feels wrong.
Fervour fades; habits stay. A person running on enthusiasm usually gets outwalked by a person running on habit.
Don’t use willpower, use rules. Willpower runs out. Rules are still there tomorrow.
Lower the bar until it is almost laughable, then step over it every day.
Done, today.
